Winoca Records is a musician-based label and production house in Wilmington, North Carolina. After years of being in the local music scene, founders Kevin Rhodes and Lincoln Morris decided in late 2009 that it was time to take the prolific, yet fractured artistic community of their coastal town and enact change. From Rhodes’ home in the idyllic and classic “Winoca” neighborhood in historic downtown Wilmington, Winoca Records was born.

Pulling together years of music industry experience and resources, they created a record label where local musicians could not only find support, but could develop their talents as writers, performers, and recording artists. True to their philosophy of sustainability and community, Winoca Records embodies everything that is “do-it-yourself,” providing an in-house recording studio as well as the capacity to design, print, and package their own CDs, coffee, and t-shirts.

Not only supporting local musical talent, Winoca Records is also committed to sustaining other small businesses in the Wilmington area. Partnering with Juan and Tammy Pacini of neighborhood coffee shop, Folks Café, the label helps sell the couple’s own organically-grown, free-trade coffee bean. Packaged with a logo designed and printed in-house, Winoca offers Folk’s Café’s products through their own website in an effort to bring attention to a business

Winoca also uses local boutique, Edge of Urge, for t-shirt design and production. Jessie Williams, owner of Edge of Urge, designed and printed t-shirts for Winoca’s band, Onward, Soldiers. Just like the coffee, all of the t-shirts and CDs that are sold are printed and packaged environmentally-friendly.

By using the local talent in all aspects of production, Winoca Records is committed to the idea of community and hopes to be leader in the music industry by modeling originality, innovation, and sustainability.
